Lampwork glass beads are made one by one, by melting glass rods in a hot flame & wrapping the molten glass around a steel rod (called a mandrel) by hand. Each bead is built up by using additional glass, and mixing colours and other elements such as fine silver to complete the design.
Finally it is soaked at a high heat in a kiln, before slowly cooling over several hours to remove stresses within the glass and ensure strength and durability. The result is a unique work of art.
All our lampwork is created by designer Carolyn Grant in her Cheshire studio. A member of Glass Beadmakers UK, she taught herself to make glass beads after discovering the fantastic work of British lampwork glass makers whilst looking for unusual beads to use in her jewellery.
Carolyn's beads are available to buy to incorporate into your own designs, in our sister shop Eva Bean Beads. Alternatively, just contact us to have a set of beads made into a unique piece of jewellery.
